Earthbound concept art
March 10th, 2010 Posted in Design, Drawing and Painting, GamesLooking at screenshots for old games always, always makes me want to play them!
I’ve played through Earthbound so many times, though, that I don’t get any satsifaction from it anymore — I’ll need to talk Kev into playing through it, so I can watch him. Seeing someone else playing a game I love for the first time is, in a lot of ways, even more fun than playing through it myself.
Here’s some of the original concept art from Earthbound:

The dungeon man!

Dalam

Another Dalam concept

Dr. Andonuts’s laboratory

Ness and King outside Ness’s house

Saturn Valley! Probably one of my favourite locations. I love Mr. Saturn.

Jeff inspects Stonehenge.

Dinosaurs in the Underworld. I don’t know why, but this place really disturbed me! Especially as a kid — probably all the people in the little “dinosaur-safe zones.” Although, they were optimistic about it, saying the dinosaurs were the ones trapped.

Early concept for Winters–looks like a small farming town.

Later Winters concept, Jeff approaches the tents near Lake Tess.

Jeff and Tessie (Tassy)

Jeff looks startled to find Tessie has emerged right under his boat! Probably an early concept of his meeting — before the Bubble Monkey was written in.
